Happy Tuesday 4-20-10

Hi Smiley,

Thanks for coming to visit me today. I wanted to tell you some of the simple facts about testing your life safety equipment. Today I will give you a basic guide to Fire Alarm Systems. Did you know Fire Alarm system should be tested on a minimum annual basis according to NFPA 72 Standards? Testing frequency might be determined by your own company, insurance company or the local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) to perform these tests. To help get more familiar with some of the devices associated to a Fire Alarm system I have put a list of some of these devices (some facilities may vary in associated system devices) I have also listed beside the devices where you may see them in your own facility:

Control Panel (usually located in a Mechanical room or a particular office space)
NAC Panels (usually located beside the control panel or in a storage room on each floor depending on the size of building)
Annunciators (usually located by front doors or back)
Pull Stations (usually located at door exits)
Audio/Visuals (located on ceilings & walls)
Visuals (located in Bathrooms, Conference rooms)
Smoke Detectors (usually located above Control Panels, Ceilings, above & below Elevators)
Heat Detectors (usually located in break rooms, storage rooms, electrical rooms)
Door Holders (usually located on single and double doors through hall ways)
Primary & Secondary recall, Shunt Trip test (located on the Elevator(s)
Duct Detectors (usually located on HVAC systems' return side currently; future code subject to change)
Tamper Switches, Water Flows & Pressure Switches (located on Sprinkler systems)

These are the devices that I look for when I'm asked to come out and do a survey of a customers property in order to put a testing package together. I hope this information can be helpful in learning more about the life safety equipment that just might be surrounding you.

Happy Tuesday 3-30-10

Hi Smiley,
Wow! What a beautiful day we have had today and I'm sure you agree. It's been busy for sure but always grateful for that. As I had mentioned in an earlier blog I think, I love to help customers with their 24/7 monitoring for their Fire Alarm Systems, Security Systems, and even Elevator monitoring. I have been in some places when a customer says to me, I had an alarm last night but no one notified me or the fire trucks didn't show up. Obviously, this is not a good thing. I will be more than happy to help if you are experiencing any issues on your monitoring. If anyone is dissatisfied with their current supplier and would like a competitive bid, just let me know. I'm always happy to try and help save you money when I can. If you are still unfamiliar with Dunk Fire & Security I invite you to visit the best team in Northwest Arkansas. Well, its time to call it a day, thanks again for visiting, see you tomorrow.

Marvelous Monday 3-29-10

Hi Smiley,

First let me say, I'm sorry that I was not able to get to my blog in time to wish everyone a "Fabulous Friday" so I hope it was as great for all of you as it was for me. Today, we are certainly into one of the most beautiful Mondays that we've seen in sometime wouldn't you agree? It's been a busy day and I want to thank all of my customers again for keeping me busy. I was putting together a proposal today on a 5 year Obstruction Investigation for a Sprinkler system. Many of you may have facilities that are coming due for this particular inspection if you have a facility that's 5 years old or you may already being doing this on buildings you have had for a longer period of time. I would be more than happy to help you work up a plan to get this taken care of. Dunk Fire & Security is familiar with this process and have performed several of these inspections. This particular inspection is located in the NFPA25 Standard Book. Well, it's almost 5 and I've got a busy day tomorrow as well. Hope you come back and visit again.

Terrific Thursday 3-25-10

Hi Smiley,

Hope you have had a terrific Thursday as well, it's been great for me. If you are one of my new or existing customers visiting today, I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all that you have done and continue to do with Dunk Fire & Security. It's hard not to stay positive when you have the opportunity I have to work for some of the greatest people. Today, I have been working with a new customer on a sprinkler project. I've been fortunate enough to work with a gentleman in our office today named Dan Cooper (better known as the sprinkler book of knowledge in my opinion). He's thought me some new things on the ways that sprinkler piping has to be installed, spray patterns of the sprinkler heads and how they work. Now, lucky for him I'm not applying to become a sprinkler installer, it wouldn't be pretty.....LOL I'm going to stick to what he teaches me so in turn I can be more effective for my customers in trying to find solutions to their challenges. If you are unfamiliar with this part of our business I invite you to visit the links provided above, it just might answer some of those questions you might have when you start looking at the ceiling and notice a sprinkler head for the first time really isn't used for hanging decorations from. Hard to believe I know, but this little bit of advice just might save you when the Fire Marshal makes that unexpected visit to your facility. That's a wrap for today!
